The Winnipeg Grenadiers Colours
The colours of The Winnipeg Grenadiers laid up in Westminster United Church belong to the 100th Canadian Infantry Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, World War I. Mrs. C.W. Rowley presented the colours to the battalion in 1916. Captain The Revered W.B> Heeney, Battalion Chaplain, consecrated the colours when they were presented.
The colours were taken to Great Britain. While the battalion was in Great Britain the colours were laid to rest in Canterbury Cathedral for safekeeping during the war. The 78th Canadian Infantry Battalion, Winnipeg Grenadiers that were fighting on the frontline were also laid to rest in Canterbury Cathedral.
The colours were brought back to Canada and laid to rest in Westminster United Church on 14th December 1919.
The battalion was awarded the campaign honour “The Great War 1916-1917” for emblazonment on the regimental colours on the 15th September 1929.
