WORSHIP SERVICE

Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary

We gather on Sunday mornings to celebrate God’s presence with us and to learn of God’s purpose for us and for the world. The encounter with God brings hope, renewal, courage, and strength to God’s people. We meet God through the hearing and preaching of God’s Word given to us in the church’s book, the Bible; through the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper that unite us with Jesus Christ; through the gift of music in the singing of hymns and sacred songs traditional and contemporary and the offering of praise by choir and organ; through the quiet intimacy of prayer and meditation; and through the joyful fellowship of Christians with one another.

We are always happy to welcome visitors and newcomers to our worship services.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Our Sunday School is both affirming and exciting, committed to teaching children that God is always with us.

Little Lambs  (ages 2 - 3) at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary

School Age Children  at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary

Children ages 2 and up first attend the worship service in the sanctuary before departing for class.

NURSERY

The Nursery space is open and available to parents who wish to bring their children to a place where there is a crib and lots of play equipment. For parents there is comfortable seating and a closed circuit television which broadcasts, both sight and sound, the service in the sanctuary. Don't hesitate to ask any greeter in the building how to get there!

CHOIR

Music has always been an integral part of worship at Westminster Church. The choir, consisting of approximately 40 members including four soloists, performs an anthem or two every Sunday and leads the congregation in the singing of hymns. Music at Westminster ranges from the works of such classic composers as Bach, Mozart and Brahms, right up to more modern music by composers such as Britten and Rutter. Over the years the choir have performed many of the major works such as the Mozart Requiem, Faure Requiem and Handel’s Messiah.
The choir occasionally presents additional concerts that not only include sacred music, but music from Broadway shows, light operettas and folk music. Over the years, the Westminster Choir has produced two tapes. These tapes are available for purchase through the church office.

Choir practice on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall

The Kids Choir practices on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the Concert Hall

ORGAN

Casavant Freres, Opus 481
“In 1912, Westminster United Church installed a large four manual, 49 stop Casavant Organ in its new building. This organ, modified with a new console and several additional ranks in 1951, as well as a tonal revision in 1985, is the grandest organ in Winnipeg in the Romantic tonal tradition. For this reason it has served as the location for many concerts and recitals by local players and world-renowned organ virtuosos over the years.” (The Organ in Manitoba James B. Hartman) For organ concerts, such as the Westminster Concert Organ Series, the choir screens are removed providing superb sight lines to the console. The organ presently has 54 ranks in a wonderful acoustic setting.
